Oktoberfest Lager

The Grist Brew Kitchen

6.2% Alcohol

Another trip around the sun, getting older but trying not to get old. It’s comforting to know I’ll never be as old as Farmer Steve or the Editor’s jokes.* My favourite son must have visited the B-day gift register because he gave me… you guessed it, beer. That’s my boy.  I’ve sampled a few super suds brews from The Grist so I was looking forward to these new brews he donated to the cause. First on my Grist list, the Oktoberfest Lager.

As I poured this one I had a stroke of genius, which is much preferable to your run of the mill stroke  How about an alternate arrangement to Dry February for the rest of us. Febfest! Those of us participating in Febfest can drink the brews that the Dry February non-festers aren’t. Have no fear JT, RA and I have your back this month.

A clear amber pour, no bubbles and headless as a Henry VIII ex.** A great malt bread aroma, with that old smoothy caramel in the mix. Everything is coming up amber. A smooth full flavoured malt caramel with a slight crisp on the end, smooth and easy. If I didn’t know better I’d say this is an Amber. The caramel is a major contributor to this higher ABV lager. Smooth and sweet and definitely a big swig candidate, it has my vote.  A crushable full flavoured caramel malt treat. We’re Febfesting now.

*Editor’s Comment: I get those jokes from you.

**Editor’s Comment: Of Henry VIII six wives, only two were beheaded, Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard. His marriage to Catherine of Aragon was annulled. Jane Seymour died of complications after giving birth to King Edward VI, King Henry’s only male heir. The marriage to Anne of Cleves was annulled, and Catherine Parr outlived King Henry and remarried Jane Seymour’s brother, Thomas.
