The Leafs posted a shutout last night against the senile Senators. Is senile Senators a redundant statement?* The goalie was the hero with a zero. The Leafs are headed to the playoffs, the Senators are headed to the golf course.  Which is my smooth slick segue into this this Birdie Juice beer.

Farm League tell us “If you make a birdie or need a birdie grab a Birdie.” Like many cranky old men I am plagued with the golfing curse. I love the game but I suck at it.** The only birdies on the course when I am playing are those godawful Canada Geese crapping all over the fairway, which is what you could say about my golf game, if I ever hit the fairway. What makes matters worse is I’m not good enough to get mad. That really pisses me off. A birdie for me is so rare it would be called a Dodo.

They tell you the best way to get better at something is to practice, so I watch golf on the TV and sample some golf related beers in order to hone my skills in anticipation of another summer on the links. So sampling some Birdie Juice is part of my intense pre-golf season practice regimen.

This bird in the hand pours a hazy golden hue that perfectly complements the beer can. A bright white birdie nest on top. An aroma of citrus and hoppy pine leaves me anticipating this beer as much as the local course opening day. Citrus flavours with a grapefruit bitter crisp finish, pucker up in a good way.

A tasty refreshing sessionable IPA that would be great on a hot day slashing and hacking your way down the fairway, or after in the clubhouse commiserating with other equally bad golfers. Telling stories about what could have been if only that goose crap wasn’t in the way of your putt on the 17th hole. That one chance you had for a birdie that day, which of course was not to be. This solid tasty fruity hoppy easy drinking IPA would be some consolation. Since it is low ABV you might be able to brag about scoring a few Birdies that day to anyone who wasn’t familiar with your golf prowess or lack thereof.

It’s even good while watching the Leafs win. A good full flavoured low ABV IPA.

*Editor’s Comment: The average age of a Senator in Canada is 67 years old. Since 1965 the Canadian Senate has had a mandatory retirement age for Senators of 75.

**Editor’s Comment: Sounds like a fair description of your game when it comes to hockey, and basketball, and baseball and fishing…….. Should I go on?

Reviewer's Comment: You crossed the line at fishing. no pun intended.
