I get this beer called Breakaway and think it would be a good beer to watch my struggling Leafs with, maybe wishing a breakaway for Matthews or Marner. A breakaway is one of the most exciting parts of the game. But it seems we are all a product of our environment and being a hockey fan, I assumed this was hockey talk. Nope. Not the first time I have been wrong, and I doubt it will be the last.

Apparently Fixed Gear Brewing is all about marrying a love for bikes with a passion for beer, it says so on the can.* Those bikes being of the self-propulsion variety as opposed to the easy rider mode of transportation. So in the cycling world, a breakaway can be one or a small group of cyclists who are attempting to distance themselves from the rest of the field. As Freddie Mercury would say “get on your bikes and ride.” All hockey and nude cycling** aside, we have a brew to review.
A golden hazy pour with a nice white head above but not beyond the call of duty. Tropical fruit and a touch of hops on the nose, smells tasty. Juicy and hazy as advertised. First swig is mild fruit with a mild touch of fizz. Where are the hops, the zing? This is a very easy drinking IPA. The fruit came out a bit more as I progressed quickly through this brew. Tropical fruit, mango, pineapple and peach according to FG. For me this is more of a session IPA with a lower ABV than most and very easy drinking. I was finished this brew before I knew it or wanted to be.
