“Hello darkness my old friend, I’ve come to talk with you again.” So said Rhymin’ Simon in his song Sounds of Silence* and it seemed like an apt introduction to the season of stouts. Leaves falling, hockey season started, cooler weather. I still have some IPAs in the beer fridge I am looking forward to sampling but there are some stouts and porters that are looking pretty tasty these days.
The name Black Light caught my eye and gave me “flashbacks” of the early 70’s and those velvet black light Led Zeppelin and Grateful Dead posters. Keep on Truckin’ Nickel Brook.
So I am pouring a glass of hello darkness. Darker than Johnny Cash’s wardrobe. With a razor thin tan head, lucky I didn’t cut myself first swig. It is a persuasive pour, persuading me to drink this stout**. Coupled with a roasty toasty chocy aromy. The first swig is smooth full flavoured with a sweet finish. Coffee chocolate balance with a nice mouthfeel, not as substantial as some stouts but more so than your run of the malt mill brew. Almost too sweet but not quite.
Nickel Brook call this an all night stout. These days for me an all-nighter is not having to get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
My dark intentions were satisfied by this hello darkness all night stout.
