Hey Common Good, Jamaica good beer do you? As old Bob Marley would say, “you see, we taking it easy”* with this light island lager. I think Marley would have liked a beer company named the Common Good, but today’s quiz for duck is closer to home, as in will the COM like this Caribbean style craft?

According to CG this brew has been “hopped gently with Calypso”. A hop named after the Goddess Calypso who according to Homer’s Odyssey detained Odysseus for seven years on the Island of Ogygia, plying the Greek hero with her sensual pleasures in hopes of a marriage proposal. Island Lager, island Goddess Calypso, Calypso hops. Perhaps too many coincidences to be a coincidence? Perhaps not.

Time for some springtime summer solace with this island breeze of a brew. Pours pale straw golden a bit of the old bubbly. An aroma of mild malt/ bread. The taste is light lager malt with some apple pear going on with a dry finish, dry enough to make me dry enough for a second swig. The fruit is evolving into a light lime and floral pale ale imitation. Usually lime and floral are two of my not so favourite flourishes but they are both subtle enough to be working well here. Nice full mouthfeel. It is a light and easy island breezy brewski.

*Editor’s Comment: From the song “Easy Skanking” from Bob Marley & the Wailers 1978 album “Kaya”. Marley’s greatest hits album “Legend” is the best-selling Reggae album of all time with over 75 million sold to date.
