When I saw the words “flavorful pilsner” on the can I thought to myself “one can hope”. Then I thought that in Canada, isn’t the correct spelling “flavourful”? Humour me for a minute here. Has this brew been Ameri”can”ized? Is our neighbour to the South now dictating how we write? Are we losing our unique identity as Canadians by spell check? Should we not defend this last bastion of the English spelling of the English language. Where is our honour? If it comes to or or our, I prefer ours, but when it comes to this Mascot brew, will I prefer theirs?
Despite the misspelled missive, will Pilly be my new favourite mascot?
This Mascot is a beauty pour for sure, classic light golden but with a thought provoking haze and a bright white head of foam wondering where the “u” went. Hoppy aroma as a pils goes, it’s an IPA on the nose. Playful and energetic. It has a very tasty slightly hoppy mild malt body with a tropical citrus fruity west coast IPA thing going on, and a crisp like a pils finish. Great combo. Well done. A bit of fizz very slight, there and gone. Almost a juicy IPA with a twist, or should I say a crisp. There is some malt in there too. The fruit mellows into a session IPA and pils combo. A very flavourful Pilsner, that’s what they said only they missed the “u” first time around.
This is a Mascot worth cheering for.
