After a long drive nothing is better than a chilly cold brewski. Before a long drive…not recommended. During a long drive, illegal and also not recommended. Transporting donkeys* from downtown Montreal to uptown K-town, bending that speed limit to the breaking point. Time to take a break for sanity’s sake and recover from some 401 drive to survive overdrive and blow off some froth with a frosty quaff at the local watering hole.
My memory may not always serve me well, but The Ports sure does. Catching up with RA and Farmer Steve for a sociable made the pit stop even more enjoyable. Daytime drinking is not the norm for Farmer Steve the retirement rookie, but with RA to guide the way he handled it like a seasoned senior.
Some standard draft selections on tap, but there was also a farm fresh MacKinnon ale to wash away some of that 4-lane trail dust. Will a MacKinnon Crosscut be a cut above? Time to process a pint and report.
A professional grade pour, a head above. A good bartender tends to raise the bar I always say.** And I’m beholdin’ golden, as in bright golden suds. A nice malt lager flavour, more so than your big brewer standard fare, with a crispy bitter ale finish. Ideal for those who like their bitters biting a bit. A good solid staple taproom brew, as good a choice as any after a long haul or before last call. Eagerly awaited and well deserved, if I do say so myself.
I always thought leaving a bar when it was still light out was bad luck,*** but I threw some salt over the wrong shoulder and ignored the black cat at the door on my way out and took my chances.
