My Skinny Little Greek Beer

Olympica Magna Pale Ale

Elis Brewery

5% Alcohol

What the Hellas am I doing drinking a Greek beer? It was in my beer of the month club case, that’s what. Me and the missus went to Greece for our honeymoon. That was so long ago I think the Parthenon was under construction when we were there.

A golden pour with almost no head but lots of bubbles, very carbonated. A nice aroma, a bit of a mixed bag of citrus and caramel. Very fizzy to start with, way too carbonated. It needed some time in the glass to decant a bit, eventually the fizz settled. A grainy malty pale ale with a slightly bitter aftertaste. It took a bit of getting used to. Its an OK brew, but quite different to our local crafts. And where’s my 500ml international tall boy? This little bottle at 0.33 liters (11.5 ounces) was only half a glass* and left me thirsty for more, or maybe something different.

I am sure there are lots of great beers in Greece, unfortunately for me they are all still in Greece.

Reviewer's Comment: I snapped a cap and had one of these the other night out of the bottle and quite enjoyed it. It was like a different beer. I rarely recommend bottle over glass (Corona is an exception) but in this case it was definitely a better quaff out of the bottle.
