A beer that tastes like scotch. Good lord, what a terrible combination that is. If you want scotch, drink a nice scotch. Don’t search for the taste of scotch in a beer. No wonder this is “original”, no one else would ever contemplate or try to copy such a foul concoction.

They say that they discovered this unique taste by maturing their beer in single malt whiskey casks, so the flavour of scotch is actually from the casks. The beer is sucking the scotch out of the beer dampened scotch permeated wood? Sounds like they brewed too much beer one day and had nowhere to store it so just threw it in some old casks in the back and voila, “the original”. They say this brings out flavours like vanilla and toffee? All I tasted was a watery scotch beery like drink. The only reason I can imagine to mix beer and scotch is to get drunk. George Thorogood recommended one bourbon, one scotch and one beer to get so drunk that he couldn’t even speak, but at least he had the good sense to drink them in sequence, not mix them into one glass.

On the can it says it is “Bourbon Barrel Scotch Ale” and “crafted in Scotland”. George Thorogood knew there is a difference between bourbon and scotch, otherwise the song would have been called “Two Bourbons and One Beer”. I don’t know much about bourbon and scotch but apart from both being whiskey they are made differently and come from different parts of the world. Bourbon from the USA, Scotch from Scotland. How did these USA bourbon casks turn up in Scotland? Is the drink Scotch or just Scottish. How do you get scotch flavour from a bourbon cask? What is the difference between ignorance and apathy? Answer to all of these questions: I don’t know and I don’t care.

I didn’t even finish this one, that is how off putting the taste was. And to make matters worse, I had one can and the next morning I think I had a bit of a hangover! Adding injury to insult.

If you like beer, don’t drink this. If you like scotch, don’t drink this. If you like getting a hangover from drinking one can of beer, drink this.

Innis and Gunn is to whiskey is to whiskey as vodka coolers are to vodka. Yes, you can…but why?
