Oktoberfest Celebratory Lager

Creemore Springs Brewery

5.5% Alcohol

Ever have one of those days that feels like three of those days? Well after one of those days it’s time to park myself in the lazy boy and enjoy some Sunday night football (doesn’t really matter who is playing) with an Oktoberfest Lager, it being the season, that is for both football and Oktoberfest. And a celebratory lager is better than a celebatory lager in my books, so hopes are high.

Creemore Springs is presenting this as part of their Heritage series, which may mean that it was a part of the craft brewery fare before Creemore was bought out by Molson Coors? Which again begs the question as to whether this is in fact a craft beer, being owned by a multi billion dollar brewer. Not only is it a heritage beer but it is celebratory (not celebatory) too so it must be quite something, or at least something. It is a beer of the month club selection, which doesn’t guarantee its great, but does guarantee I will try one.

Nice amber pour, and I love me an amber. Mild malt bread aroma, with an amber like caramel hint in there as well. Looks good, smells good. A nice smooth caramel malt flavour with a touch of a bitter finish, and a chalky aftertaste, nothing to call 911 about, but noticeable, maybe the chalk will take a walk (fingers crossed). Great full bodied flavour, almost an amber, but that damn aspirin like chalky aftertaste detracts from an otherwise delicious lager. Bottom line, nice flavour and mouthfeel for Oktoberfesting, too bad they added some aspirin in the finish for the morning after Oktoberfestering.
