Peachy or the Pits?

Peach of Mind

Muskoka Brewery

I do love me a nice firm peach, and a peach pie a la mode is to live for. By the way, I never quite got that saying, when something is so good it’s to die for? I figure if you die for it you won’t have the chance to enjoy it? Stupid saying. Where was I? Oh yea, and I love beer too. But I don’t often like fruit flavoured beers. But Muskoka is a good brewery and I love a good pun as much as the next old feller. You can see my conundrum.

I listened to “Sam I Am” of green eggs and ham fame telling me to try it and I will like it, and that damn Sam I Am steered me wrong last time with some super sour suds (“Pucker Up” review). But since I am writing this review you can see I have thrown caution and good sense to the wind and tried out the Muskoka’s Peach Kölsch.

A peachy coloured hazy pour, no doubt about that, but no head! Warning, warning, Will Robinson, Danger, Danger*. No aroma, that’s odd. No head, no nose. Can this brew save face?**

First swig was a fuzzy peach, mild fruit no hops or bitters in the finish, just a fizzy carbonation which surprised me with a no head brew. Good news, they got the peach flavour just right, enough to notice but not to distract. Bad news, what was distracting; disarming; and disturbing was an off-putting aftertaste. Not bitter but metallic tart? This peach flavour in an IPA would be a nice refreshing brew, I think it would be better than in this Kölsch where the tart finish does not pair well with the peach flavour.

*Editor’s Comment: Lost in Space was a TV series that ran from 1965 to 1968. The ditzy robot would warn young Will Robinson of danger, often when there was no real danger. It was a sci-fi version of Swiss Family Robinson. In the 2018 Netflix “original” Lost in Space remake the robot was much more serious and ominous. A great Canadian actress, Molly Parker, reprises the lead role of Maureen Robinson, originally played by none other than June Lockhart who also played Timmie’s Mom on the early 60’s TV series “Lassie”.

**Editor’s Comment: I thought you said you enjoyed a “good” pun.
