I have been following this brewery from its humble beginnings when they were located in a small corner building that used to be a car rental agency (that old location is now a cannabis store along with the 999 others in the city), to their beautiful brewery pub, night club facility , that used to be a car dealership. Great Northern success story.
So I stopped by New Ontario to see what’s new. Turns out everything there is new, it being New Ontario. So I had to get more specific and look for what’s new for me. How about a bearded bear? It is the playoffs so the new Ontario bear is sporting his or her (I am trying to be politically correct here*) playoff beard. A New Ontario New England IPA was new news for yours truly, so a quaffing was in the offing.
A twilight golden pour with a slight bit of white foam to match the bear’s gray soul patch. Slightly hazy but so was I. Fruit first with hops in the aroma. Tasting some fizz with some fruit and bitters. Not hoppy. It seems the bitters are there instead of a more traditional hoppy finish. Fruit aftertaste, interesting. Everthing settled in, the fizz not as fizzy but still a bit fizzy, the bitters not as bitter but still a bit bitter, fruit not as fruity but still a bit fruity, and me not as sober but still a bit sober.
I cracked this brew on a mild evening, my mistake **. I think if this brew was colder, and I snapped the cap on a hot afternoon, it would have a ticket on the super suds bus.
A new, and New Ontario, twist on a New England IPA.
