Samuel Adams and the Pint Politique
A bottle of Breakaway Blonde beer from a Boston based brewer, an alliterative ale to be sure. Samuel Adams may have been one of the founding fathers of the USA, but he was no roar in hell when it came to the brewing business.* Not so the case with the brewery that bears his name, Samuel Adams®. In fact Jim Koch, who founded the brewery is thought of as the founding father of the craft beer movement in the USA.
When I think of a breakaway, I’m thinking hockey. Samuel Adams was thinking of the country. Jim Koch tells us that this beer’s unique characteristics will help it breakaway from other beers, I assume to stand out and be a standout. Tankard taste test time.
A clear golden pour, with next to no head. A mild malt aroma. The taste is a basic malt bread smoothie with a very slight bitter finish. If you weren’t looking for those bitters there is a good chance you’d miss them, as in not notice them and wish they were there. It’s a big swig blonde, smooth as silk on satin. Easy drinking is this brew’s forte.
I don’t know if this ale is all that unique but it is an easy as a Sunday afternoon smooth and tasty blonde, quite enjoyable. When it comes to pints I’m non-partisan, but all politics aside, Samuel Adams (the brewery) gets my vote.
