Sinister Minister, Save One for Me

Sinister Minister

Brimstone Brewing Co.

7% Alcohol

Today’s BBQ and beer is fire and Brimstone, Niagara based Brimstone Brewing and their Sinister Minister that is. Looks like it’s the saved that’s needin’ the savin’ this time*. If you want to tell me how great a frosty cold IPA is on a hot summer day slaving over the grill I would tell you that you are preaching to the choir. So let’s try this Brimstone IPA and see if its bound for glory or banished to purgatory.

A burnt orange fiery pour, some may say sinister. Darker than your typical IPA, if there is such a thing these days. Juicy aroma but the first taste is fruit, malt and treetop pine, with a bit of fizz and bitters. Not exactly a religious experience but very refreshing and lending itself to big swigs. A bit of fruit and malt in the body but the pine bitter finish comes in almost right away, the sequence and balance works well. It is a 7 percenter but I’m not on my knees yet**, although I am starting to gain a whole new perspective on the view from the BBQ deck.

Refreshing, high ABV, traditional IPA. Well balanced. I must confess, this one deserves high praise.

*Editor's Comment: "Even the Saved Need Saving" is a song from Selwyn Birchwood's 2017 album "Pick Your Poison". The refrain "It's a hell of a world we're living in, when even the saved need saving."

**Editor’s Comment: Blue Oyster Cult’s 1975 live album “On Your Feet or On Your Knees” is one of the greatest live rock albums. The MC at the start of the concert introduces the band by saying “On your feet or on your knees, here they are, the amazing Blue Oyster Cult”.
