I remember meeting Daryl Sittler in the mid-90’s. His business card simply said “Daryl Sittler; Businessman”. We had just taken our company public and he was a board member. When we met he said “So you’re the cashflow part of the business” because my part of the organization was the only one making money at the time. Yep, he was a businessman for sure.
He was certainly all business on February 7th 1976 when he left Reece’s in pieces and gave the Bruins goalie the business. As in 6 goals and 4 assist in an 11 to 4 shellacking of Coach Cherry’s beloved Bruins. I wonder if after that game Don Cherry reconsidered his “never pull the goalie” policy?*
After over 1,000 brew reviews sometimes you get a little deja brew, the feeling you have sampled one before. Maybe the brewer has relabeled an old familiar? Perhaps played the name game in a rebrand? But in this case there is no mystery. Dragan originally had the Sittler brand but once Dragan faded and folded our friends at Something in the Water picked it up and ran with it big time. And we’re glad they did.
The SITW team and their fish out of water mascot encourage us to “drink curiously” and they certainly have some interesting offerings to inspire us to do so. Purple Lagers, Pancake Bay Sweet Stouts, Peanut Butter and Jam Sours, are among the many curiosities available. Enter our brew of the hour, the Sittler 10 Point Lager. Nothing curious about this brew, a down to earth light lager that pays tribute to a Leaf’s legend. Time to pour and score, but unlike Sittler we will only score once.
Golden and clear, as pretty a lager pour as you’ll ever pour. The malt nose, smells like a winner. The taste is a malt full flavour lager. A bit of a creamy mouthfeel, might be something in the water? It’s surprisingly full flavoured for a light beer. Easy drinking, but with enough flavour that I wouldn’t call it crushable. No real lager sweet but a bit of a dry finish, almost like a lagered pils. A good solid lager, a fridge stocker, No big swigs but it evaporated pretty quick. Just like Sittler, this one is destined to be a crowd favourite too.
