I don’t really have a sour disposition, although some may dispute that statement,* but the right sour can be an enjoyable departure from the malt and hops mainstream. As far as guavas go, which I suppose on their own is from the tree to the ground, it’s not my go to juice or fruit. But I am a Grist fan and always welcome more Grist for the Cranky Old Man mill.
A pretty pour, an orangey red that almost glows, with a brilliant white tilde of a topper without equal. Aroma, yep it’s a sour alright. Tart and fruity on the nose, smells like a hardcore no holds barred sour. But the taste is not over the top, but closer to out of the park, as in very tasty. Definitely a juicy guava brew, with fizzy grapefruit bitter finish, not a tarty party but there is a bit of a sour tart aftertaste. On second thought, I think they are guava bitters not grapefruit, if such a thing is a thing. I like it, this is the right sour for me. Juicy with a bit of fruit forward bitters and a mild tart taste, but nothing in excess in any department which creates a nice balance.
I’m not sure how many guavas gave up their lives for this beer, but their sacrifice is greatly appreciated.
A super suds sour, no one saw that coming.
