Puppers Golden Lager

Collaboration Brew Co.

5% Alcohol

I bought this can unaware of where the name Puppers came from. I figured a golden retriever and a golden lager? I haven’t seen the show Letterkenny but apparently Puppers beer is the brew of choice of the characters on the show. An entirely fictitious brand for the first two seasons, but in 2017 Stack Brewing released an American Pale Ale called Puppers. In 2021 a new deal was made with Labatt to use the name with a new brew, this time a golden lager.

Upon finding out what the name actually refers to by reading the fine print on the can**, my first impression was what kind of a sad brew needs to bootstrap sales by using a Canadian produced comedy TV show as a marketing ploy? My expectations were low to say the least.

A pour so golden the sun was jealous. Light thin white head that dissipated quickly, not much of a head at all actually. Nice lager aroma. A very smooth lager, great flavour, no bitter. Very easy drinking. I really enjoyed this lager. This could be a go to brew for me, it was that good. If the marketing mavens had tasted this brew and knew how good it was they could have saved some money not buying this lame name from a TV franchise. But no matter what you call it, it is a very good lager.

*Editor’s Comment: Brewed by Mill Street who were purchased in 2015 by Canadian brewer Labatt Brewing Company, which in turn is owned by the global brewing giant Anheuser–Busch InBev, created when InBev executed a hostile takeover of Anheuser–Busch in 2008 to become AB InBev, based in Belgium, and the world's largest beer brewer by both volume and revenue.

**Editor’s Comment: I see you are still reading the fine print after buying the brew.
