Checking in to Motel California and this is no California common accommodations. Our West Coast host with the most toast is a Pilsner. But this isn’t a New York or a Boston or a St.John’s or a St.John Pilsner, this is a Pilsner of the West Coast variety.*

A West Coast Pilsner?

I was thinking to myself this could be heaven or this could be hell. And it’s beneath the head right before me, like a shimmering light, the cool smell of malt and fruit, rising up through the night. Welcome to the Motel California, such a lovely taste, such a lovely taste, (none will go to waste). There’s plenty more of this Motel California, of this tasty beer, you can find it here.

A clear bubbly pour. Mild malt and some fruit on the nose. The first taste is exactly as the sniffer predicted, malt fizzy with a nice tropical fruit body too. A crisp finish and mild bitter aftertaste all very nicely balanced. Fizz is settling into a nice Pils pale ale combo with the tropical fruit and a citrus crisp all working well together. The balancing act is performed to perfection, no net required. Just like Sons of Kent promised, what we have here is a West Coast Pilsner, this one is of the well-done variety.

I’m drinking up this Motel California, what a nice surprise, got to tell the guys.

Last thing I remember, I was checking for more, but I knew I was done for the night, as I closed the beer fridge door. Relax said the Sons of Kent, we are busy brewing here, Check us out any time you like, and buy some more of our beer.

*Editor’s Comment: St. John’s is in Newfoundland. St. John is in New Brunswick. Both are definitely East coasters. Fort St.John is in British Columbia but it is closer to Alberta than the Pacific.

**Editor’s Comment: Some drink to remember, some drink to forget. Our reviewer does both. He has also butchered the lyrics to the song Hotel California written by Felder, Henley and Frey and recorded by the Eagles and released on their 1977 album of the same name. The song was a chart topper and the record won album of the year at the 1978 Grammys.

We would whole heartedly agree Harold. Great beer, worth checking into this Motel. It should be a Four Seasons.
