Drinking Sours for me is like playing that old game of Whack a Mole at the fair. Very much hit and miss. When it comes to Sours. just like Clint I have had to deal with the good, the bad and the ugly.

Shout out to Humbert who asked for more reviews of Sours, as opposed to more sour reviews, although at times they could be one and the same.

So I’m livin’ the ola pupule* and pouring an Aloha Sour from Side Launch. It pours a hazy dark gold with a snow white lei, quite a nice pour. An aroma of sour candy and spices, I didn’t catch the fruit in the first whiff of jiff.  Where is my fruit? Scurvy alert! First quaff is a bit more sour than tangy, candy and tropical fruit taste, with some spices in there too. Definitely not beer tasting but tasty nonetheless. A tropical fruit candy tarty slight sour with a bit of fizz with a spiced finish. A saison sour?  With some relief I realize that this is a tasty sour. Consider that mole whacked.

Note that as the brew warmed a bit it became a tad unbalanced with the spices becoming more pronounced. Best served chilly as willy.

*Editor’s Comment: Living the “ola puple” is Hawaiian for living “La Vida Loco” or the crazy life. “Livin' la Vida Loca" is a song by Ricky Martin for his English-language album debut in 1999. The song was written by Draco Rosa and Desmond Child.
