Maybe the Dinghy Dock? Or perhaps the Black Bear? Could be Carlos O’Bryan’s or even Jinglepot. I’m not sure what bar in Nanaimo they are referring to but I’m 4,435 kms away from any one of them so it’s a moot point.
Popping the top on this extra tall boy to watch the extra tall boys on the extra tall screen win last night. Quaffing a porter while watching Porter parking in the paint.* Go Raptors. We the North.** Muskoka sure have brewed up an extra long, extra strong porter with this one. Upon finishing it I read that this “568ml can is perfect for sharing with friends”. I’m all for sharing beer with friends as long as it’s their beer I’m sharing.
Dark, black ominous and foreboding. A pitchlike porter pour. An aroma that’s toasty roasty cocoa and certainly smells tasty. First quaff, ooh-wah. That’s a super strong sipper, full flavoured and a bit boozy but with a sweet cocoa concoction hard at work. Quite nice. Next swig the vanilla starts to make an appearance, and just doesn’t stop. The secret to vanilla in beer is not to have any. But if against your better judgement and the odds of making a good beer you must include vanilla in the mix, the next secret is to be subtle. Unfortunately the words subtle and Imperial Porter don’t show up together too often. There is nothing subtle about this over the top punisher of a proper pint of porter.*** Espresso finish showing up is all ok, I just wish that Nanaimo vanilla was chilla not a killa gorilla.
As I near the end of this big bad boy of a brew it gets sweet and harsh, a little too much of everything, but I did enjoy the first 473mLs of it. Maybe I should have shared it? Naaah.
