Out on the slopes with the grandkids and paying the price, so perhaps harkening back to Christmas, like one of those herald angels, with a festive stout may raise my spirits. Note to Self: Fishing may not be the best off-season conditioning program for down-hill skiing. My après ski these days is Epsom salts.
Santa’s B-team is of course referring to Rudolph*, the freak reindeer of fame. The classic Christmas story and song tells us that it was a foggy night and the glow from his nose helped guide the sleigh? I don’t know about you, but when it’s foggy my headlights don’t help much and the brights make matters worse. Not sure how a shiny schnoz would rectify the situation. And once Rudolph took over the lead “all the reindeers loved him”. I don’t know about that either. What about the former lead who got bumped by old neon nostrils? Or the second in command who was waiting for his chance to prance but lost the lead by a nose? I would expect Santa had some dissension in the reins that night.
This New Ontario seasonal stout pours as thick and dark as that Christmas eve of fable and fame that provided Rudolph his opportunity to shine. An aroma of yummy, that being smooth roasted cocoa malt with a bit of sweet in there too, like I said, yummy. A festive first swig reveals roast malt cocoa and a sweet finish, then a bit of a burnt finish in the beginning but that faded and folded like a 1 pair hand. It has a watery mouthfeel contrary to it’s thick pour. About as easy drinking a stout as you can get. The warmer it got the sweeter it got. No lack of lactose here. A sweet après ski stout that took away some of the aches from a day of hitting the slopes.
