Out on the lake tonight trying to catch a couple of fat bass-tards. No luck, but that’s maybe a good thing because I don’t think fat bass-tard season is open yet. Ever try visualization? It doesn’t work for fishing, unless you are visualizing not catching anything. Well, no matter how you look at it, fishin’ is thirsty work. The net was dry now so am I. How about a cold IPA, or better yet a Cold IPA, for some post cast quenching.

We have sampled a few cold IPAs with super suds results. Lake of Bays tells us this brew is “crisp, bitter and clean.” It’s slightly hazy, a lite-brite* pour, that’s for sure. I could smell the hoppiness as I was pouring, forewarned is forearmed, although I just checked and I still only have two. There is an aroma of hops, with fruit and malt in the background, complex on the nose.

It has a very light tasting body and mouthfeel with mild fruit, and then bim boom bang a big crisp zingy hoppy finish with bitters galore. A watery refreshing mouthfeel, light, but the pine bitters really kick in on the finish and steal the show. Unbalanced could be it’s middle name.**  Body light cold and refreshing, ends upon the corner of hop boulevard and pine bitter avenue.  It’s OK, if you’re ok with a bitter ending.  Pine or grapefruit, there is no doubt, as to which the jury’s out.

The IBU of 40 seems understated by half. Not at all balanced but just enough mild fruit in the body to make for a nice lean into the bitters, if you’re that way inclined.

*Editor’s Comment: Hasbro’s Lite-Brite came out in 1967 and was a popular children’s toy. It was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 2022. About time!

**Editor’s Comment: Could be yours as well.
