The other day the missus did a pilgrimage to the mecca of all shoppers everywhere, of course I am talking about Costco. What would this have to do with a beer review, you may ask. Although it was a shopping spree that may result in a second mortgage, she did bring me back two jars of Kirkland Whole Mix Nuts (48% cashews). 40 years ago my old man said “she’s a keeper”, and he didn’t steer me wrong. Those nuts are the absolute best snack with a cold brew. And healthy too, I think, unless you are allergic to nuts, then it could be fatal, in which case the expression “to die for” could be appropriate.
So here we are again with those crazy philosophizing Flying Monkeys, Platos of the pints, the Aristoles of the ales, the Socrates of the suds, the Kants of the can. Can’ts that can, interesting thought, where was I? Oh yea, so what do those heavy thinkers of the drinkers, those Flying Monkeys, have to tell us this time? How about this one, ”The answer to the question lies within the question, embracing both synopsis and creation.” They also suggest that we “stay real”, and it dawns on me that they may have presented two contrary philosophies. *
They have also presented us with another IPA, Quantum Hugs. A cold IPA no less. A golden slightly hazy pour with a heavy thinker’s head. A hoppy aroma with a touch of malt perhaps? The first swig was mild fruit and mellow hoppiness. Nice. This Cold IPA wasn’t that cold even though I pulled it out of the fridge and had a chilled glass. Irony or more cognitive dissonance? Once again those flying monkeys are messing with my head. Big mellow pillows of mild hoppiness** create Quantum Hugs, resulting in a maximum swig size. It has a mellow finish instead of zing or crisp, a different finish for a traditional IPA, but I like it. These days I think everyone could use a bit of mellowing out.
The purveyors of fine IPAs have come through again, with another interesting and enjoyable brew.
