At the ultimate Arizona tourist dinner and partaking in a pint, with Marshall Pioneer Pepper the singing Cowboy entertaining us. He deputized us to help ensure things didn’t get out of hand. Kinda like the Hell’s Angel’s at Altamont for the Stones.* After a few Roy Rogers and Gene Autry songs someone requested Johnny Cash. Well, Marshall Pepper made it clear that he usually sang Cowboy in the saddle songs, and that Cash was one of those new fangled pop-country artists,** but he’d make an exception tonight since it was such a great “crowd”. Things almost got out of hand when the 30 some people at dinner engaged in a “Ring of Fire” sing along.
Surrounded by such excitement I thought a frosty cold adult beverage would hit the spot, and the Marshall agreed that quaffing a cold one while on duty wouldn’t affect my deputy status. Inspired by the amazingly unauthentic cantina trappings I ordered California based Stone Brewing Salt & Lime Lager Buenaveza. Buena cerveza *** I hope.
A golden bright and bubbly pour favor. A lime wedge positioned precariously pint side. An aroma of malt and lime, maybe the wedge contributing. It has a fresh crisp lager taste with a just right touch of lime. More flavour than your old school Corona or the raft of imitators lining the beer store shelves these days. A pilsner like finish with no hops or bitters, just crisp. Cold, tasty and refreshing.
Just like that new wave Johnny Cash music, a nice departure from the everyday. Buena cerveza for sure.
