Road weary, feeling low down on the highway, I made a pit stop at an off-highway Timmies. I’m a plain old fashion regular guy, as in a medium regular coffee with an old fashion plain donut. A unique feature on my GPS, it searches for nearby breweries. A walking distance alarm sounds. Around the corner, beside the car wash and across from the Stinky Canuck*, lo and behold it’s The Napanee Beer Company.** I walked into the unassuming industrial mall store front doors and perused the fridge. I recall their Blacklist, an excellent dark lager. I must admit, their beer fridge was less well stocked than my own. A black and white Avery sticker label invites me to a Sneak Preview of a European Pilsner and I bought myself a ticket to the show,
A bright golden pour that appears hazy due to the frostiness of my icy tankard. With the cessation of the condensation, it is clearly quite a clear beer. A fresh light malt aroma, no fruit or hops or any other odors, good, bad or indifferent. A light and breezy fresh mild malt taste with a small floral arrangement, some would say subtle but discernable. A very mild crisp finish. The floral notes became a bit more pronounced as time and tasting went on. All in all, a solid pilsner. European? Maybe. Napanean. Definitely.
