Big Wave, from the big island, owned by a big beer company, in a little itty bitty bottle.* It’s 12 ounces of Island time, a bit of a tropical island respite on a cool fall night. I wonder which island this bottle is from. Let’s see, according to the Kona label, this particular beer could have been brewed in Fairfield, California; Fort Collins, Colorado; Cartersville, Georgia; Merrimack or Portsmouth, New Hampshire; or Portland, Oregon; but definitely not Hawaii. Island time? Aloha-ha-ha, I guess the joke is on me.* Ok, it’s liquid Aloha mainland time.** Time to do the wave.
It was such a cute little bottle that I passed on a pour and went classless and glassless. An aroma of a citrus fruit pale ale, definitely different. The taste is light fruit with mild malt and a touch of hoppiness. A session IPA perhaps? They call it a golden ale but it is more like a session IPA in my books, and their bottle. It is tasty and easy drinking, a big swigger, tail gate party fodder. A bottle rocket, a quick quaffer. I enjoyed it.
It may not be an island time brew, but it is definitely a summer time brew. Island time, no, mainland time yes. Either way, I would make time for another.
