When it comes to beer, here at COMDB we look for excellence in brewing. Our Editor on the other hand looks for excellence in spelling, specifically when spelling the word “excellence” correctly. “Athletic Excellance”?* I guess Daft doesn’t consider a spelling bee to be an athletic event. Daft may not be a stellar speller but will their Athletic Excellance be a super star suds stud? Their other high flying flamingo festooned brews have made the grade, time to taste and tell.
This double dry hopped IPA comes in at 5% ABV, lower than most doubles. It starts off with a pretty pour. A light orange shade with a foamy froth. A citrus pineapple tang aroma. First taste is a Tropical citrus tang with a mild malt backbone, a bit busy out of the gate, but very tasty. The juicy tropical provides a soft mouthfeel, followed by a bit of a tangy finish, delicious. A bit of bitters shows up late in the game but it has a great sequence and balance front to back.
Light as DDH IPAs go, very refreshing and juicy tasty. Spell check be damned, Athletic Excellance may not be in the Scrabble dictionary but it’s OK in my books.

The Daft team got back to us on this, and I quote “Believe it or not, the spelling was intentional. Perhaps a too subtle reference to poor performance!” Certainly too subtle for our Reviewer.
You were the one having a conniption over the spelling.
