Fun facts about the Little Apple. It takes me two hours to get there but only one hour to get home. Out on the town in downtown Hog Town with a Thank God it’s Friday attitude on a Thursday night in my Sunday best. At a fancy pants affair that has my favourite type of bar, an open one. And it turns out to be my lucky day, it has a beer I haven’t sampled yet! Bonus.
The beer name Divercity isn’t an ode to Atlantis, or a spellcheck fail. It just so happens that Toronto is one of the most diverse cities in the world. The most recent census indicates that 55.7% of the population is visible minorities. That sounds like an oxymoron to me. How can 55.7% be a minority? ** Regardless of the math involved, Lost Craft is celebrating the city’s diversity with this Helles lager. I seem to recall a super suds Lost Craft Cranky Old Christmas countdown Cocoa Caramilk stout, not only a very delicious brew but an obvious opportunity for an outlandish alliteration.
This Helles lager pours bright golden and semi-clear. It has a mellow malt aroma. First taste showcases its creamy mouthfeel. Mellow malt with a subtle floral and a slightly aspirin bitters finish. The finish smooths by second quaff, and the result is a malt forward lager with a touch of floral. Tasty, refreshing and easy drinking.
Divercity is just unique enough to be a craft brew but mainstream enough to have mass appeal. This tip of the tankard to the little apple is one hell of a Helles. A bargain at twice the price!
