Maybe OJ’s juice went sour, but if you’re a Chicago Bears fan your memories of Walter “Sweetness” Payton are still just as sweet.* This is an oh so sweet segue to another dessert stout sampling! Oft times these after dinner stoutly suds have crossed the sweetness line, and a fine line it is. In fact only one dessert stout to date has reached super suds status, the rest too super sweet for our cranky old tastebuds.**
But it’s been a while since our last tractor pull, so I was hopeful that this Beau’s brew, like many Beau’s before, would be deemed another super suds.
An unsurprisingly black as stout pour, an off white head slim and trim, First sniff was a snout full of vanilla, it smells super sweet, concerning but not overly so. The almost but not quite creamy countenance hosts a vanilla roast malt cocoa coffee combo, definitely sweet but balanced. The vanilla straddles the excessive sweetness mark but never quite crosses. At first I thought maybe the sweet was getting too, but I settled into this one and just enjoyed it. No doubt it’s sweet but it nicely balances with cocoa roast malt and espresso, maintaining its stoutness.

wow so inspiring
