Hey Winslow, AZ. Jackson Browne wrote the line, so how come Glenn Frey is standin’ on the corner.

Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey wrote the song Take it Easy. * It wasn’t until Jackson Browne heard it on the radio that he realized The Eagles had recorded it. The 1972 release was the first of many hit singles for The Eagles, but I like the Jackson Browne version better. Is it possible to make a beer analogy out of this situation? Of course it is.

I saw The Eagles in concert, playing their hits, safe and slick. Occasionally Joe Walsh would break out and do something interesting, but apart from Hotel California that they seemed to be mailing it in. I saw Jackson Browne in concert, personable, down to earth and genuine. He seemed to care more about the craft than the sales. Maybe you see where I’m going with this. Think of The Eagles as your big box brewer, cranking out beer for the masses. Jackson Browne as your craft brewer, consummate craftsman, performing for the people who appreciate something above and beyond the every day.

The Sons of Kent may be Eagles fans, as their West Coast Pilsner we reviewed (and enjoyed) is called Motel California. Take It Easy is a light Pilsner, not an all that common quaff. I had to dive into the COMDB review archives and found only one other pilsner light out of 1734 brews reviewed. A rare bird indeed which makes it all that much more interesting.

A clear golden pour, the minimal head while porting didn’t stick around for the brew pic. A light lager sweet malt aroma. First taste is a very light malt with some mild apple sweet with a slightly dry finish, easy for sure.  A watery mouthfeel, and as you would expect very easy drinking. Great big swiggable. It’s definitely a pilsner with malt sweet to dry crisp finish. It’s certainly light and easy, nicely balanced and refreshing.

*Editor’s Comment: Jackson Browne was the primary song writer, but the song was unfinished when Browne wrote “I’m standin’ on the corner in Winslow Arizona”, and Glenn Frey suggested the second line which Browne liked. Many of the Eagles hits were written or co-written by others including “Peaceful Easy Feeling”, “Already Gone”, “Seven Bridges Row”, “New Kid in Town”, “Heartache Tonight” was with Bob Seger.
