Soccer Mom

Nickel Brook Brewing Co.

4.6% Alcohol

As the World Cup “kicks” off today, we thought the COM would join Nickel Brook in a toast to soccer moms all over the world. Here’s a typical soccer Mom conversation at an early morning practice 20 years ago. Translation courtesy of the COMDB Translation Department:

Mrs. Messi: These practices are so early, but little Leo loves playing so much. His dream is to go professional.

Mrs. Ronaldo: Yes, I know, Ronny has the same dream. They’re both good but the chances of a professional football career are so slim. I’m sure after a few years he will begin thinking sensibly and join his father doing landscaping. Working outdoors, gardening, bringing some beauty into the world, it’s an honourable profession.

Mrs. Messi: Yes, I agree. Leo’s Father can get him a job at the steel factory when he turns 14, the work is hard but the money is good. There are lots of city leagues where they can both continue to play and enjoy the sport.

Mrs. Ronaldo: Damn, I spilled my coffee.

Mrs. Messi: Oh Dear, here, I have a cloth you can use.

A lemon light golden semi-clear pitch with a full bright white header.  The aroma is wheat grain with a faint banana scent. First taste is banana and salami? Seriously that’s the taste, maybe I don’t need a salty snack with this one? I was hoping for a cold craft and got a cold cut craft. Second swig and no more cured meat, it’s replaced with a bit of fizz and pepper spices with middlin’ banana in the foreground, and a touch of citrus. Smooth easy finish, a summer stalwart. What it settled into was a traditional banana pepper spice classic wheat.

A Belgian Wit is not my favourite, or a favourite to win the tourney either, but if you’re a wheat lover this brew is a great way to tackle the World Cup.**

*Editor’s Comment: First of all, you don’t hear the word courtesy and the COMDB Translation department often in the same sentence. Lionel Messi (34 years old) played in Spain while Christian Ronaldo (41 years old) played in Portugal so the two never would have played together as children. Both their mothers worked in the hospitality industry, while Christian’s father was a gardener and Lionel’s father worked as a manager at the local steel plant. Today Ronaldo is the highest paid athlete in the world with annual earnings of $300M. Messi ranks third in the world with a $140M a year pay cheque.

**Editor’s Comment: The Belgian Red Devils have been in the World Cup many times since their first appearance in 1930, but their best showing to date has been a third place finish, they have never won the cup. This year the bookmakers have them at 40 to 1 to win.
