Blonde is a pretty direct moniker, about as simple and straightforward as you can get when it comes to the naming game. MacLean’s beer names are usually pretty plain Janes and Johns, although their Lazy Hazy IPAzy was getting a little crazy. The exception that proves the rule turned out to be exceptional. * Time to see if brewmaster MacLean has whipped up a golden blonde or a dirty one.
An unsurprisingly golden pour, a bit hazy. Minimal head, maximum blonde. Creamy malty on the nose. It is malty but with a fruit to crisp then pils bitter finish, a lot going on in the first swig. Creamy malty with a lager sweet showing up to join the crisp mild bitters, it’s all happening here, and it’s all good. The colder the better for this malt forward golden ale. Full flavoured and easy drinking. I wouldn’t call it sessionable, but it passed the big swig test like a champ.
Maclean’s is all beer business, they brew beers that JT would say “taste like beer” and this buxom blonde fits the bill.
