The Farmer’s Creed * meets the fisherman’s creed with this light lager.
“A feller isn’t plotting schemes. Out fishin’.
He’s only busy with his dreams. Out fishin’.
His livery is a coat of tan, his creed to do the best he can.
A feller’s always mostly man. Out fishin’.”
All these creeds got me thinking. Didn’t Rocky beat Apollo Creed? And wasn’t Gord Gekko’s creed greed? ** And if everyone else has a creed, why not COMDB? I think it’s time to crank out a cranky old creed.
A feller isn’t working hard, drinkin’ beer
Definitely not mowin’ the yard. drinkin’ beer
Just blowin’ the froth off a pretty pour, having a quaff and giving a score,
A feller’s just drinkin’ and not much more, drinkin’ beer
Yep, that’s about it. Time to live up to our noble creed and pour and score this Farmer’s Creed light.
A bubbly golden pour, effervescent, with a tinge of red to go with the nonexistent head. It has a light malt aroma. First taste is malt fizz with a bubbly finish. Not exactly smooth but easy drinking as most lights are. A subtle lager sweet joins the malt, light but flavourful. An ever so slight hoppy tang shows up late in the game. A solid standard light lager.
Back to basics light lagers are hard to stand out when every brewer has one or more out there.
Editor’s Comment: The beer name Gone Fishin has an apostrophe missin.
Reviewer’s Comment: You’re pedantic jokes aren’t.
Editor’s Comment: Although ending a sentence in “aren’t” is acceptable, you should have used the word “your” instead of the contraction “you’re”.
Reviewer’s Comment: Is the sentence “you’re a pain in the ass” correct?
Editor’s Comment: Grammatically yes, although the statement itself is a matter of opinion and not meant literally.
*Editor’s Comment: From their website, The Farmer’s Creed: “I believe a person’s greatest possession is their dignity and that no calling bestows this more abundantly than farming and ranching. Hard work and honest sweat are the building blocks of a person’s character. Farming, despite its hardships, is one of the most honourable ways a person can spend their days. My children are learning values that can be earned no other way. Many of the best things in life are free: the splendor of a sunrise, the rapture of wide open spaces, and the sight of your land greening each spring. True happiness comes in watching your crops ripen, your children grow tall, and your whole family feel pride in shared experience. By my toil I am giving more to the world than I am taking from it. My life will be measured by what I have done for others, and by this standard I fear no judgment. I believe in farming and ranching because they make all this possible.” – Adapted from Frank Mann
**Editor’s Comment: Apollo Creed beat Rocky in their first fight in the 1976 best picture Oscar winner movie Rocky. Rocky won in their 1979 Rocky II rematch. Apollo also won their secret, third sparring match behind closed doors at the end of Rocky III (1982), which Rocky confirmed to Apollo’s son, Adonis, in the 2015 film Creed. In the 1987 movie “Wall Street” Gordon Gekko (played by Michael Douglas) gives his famous, or infamous, greed is good speech. Douglas won the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of the ruthless financier.
