Sittler 10 Point Lager

Dragan Brewery

4% Alcohol

Cherry never pulls his goalie.

Don Cherry was coaching the Bruins that night. They were leading the division and on a 7 game winning streak when they laced them up at Maple Leaf Gardens on February 7th, 1976. The Leafs were struggling having won only once in their last seven games. The stage was set for an ass kicking. However the ass kicking that transpired was not the one the bookies booked on. The Leafs won that game 11 to 4 on the strength of Darryl Sittler’s 6 goals and 4 assists, a 10 point game surpassing Rocket Richard’s previous record of 8 points in a game in 1944. The Sittler record still stands 47 years later.

Dragan’s tribute to Sittler’s long-standing record is their 10 Point Lager. Not to be confused with JT’s 10 pint lager,  this lite lager is a Dragan beer in partnership with Sittler himself. Let’s see if this beer is worthy of sporting the record holder’s name.

JT’s Ten Pint Lager

I should add that this brew fittingly held the coveted position of third period wing can for last night’s Leafs 7 to zip shutout of the pitiful Penguins (Sid is not a kid anymore).

A golden goal scorers pour, a bit of an ice shower head on top for an opposing goalie mask wash. A bright right after the Zamboni icy fresh light malt aroma. The taste is a nice malt slightly sweet lager with nice (not watery) mouthfeel and some crisp. It’s all here and starting off in balance. Going down like a Mike Tyson opponent, fast and in the face.* Nice solid easy drinking lager balanced start to finish, as consistent as Tiger Woods (2001 to 2009).**  A full flavoured light with a mildly crisp finish.

Some legendary similes in there to go with Leaf legend Darryl Sittler, I’m not sure if the adjective legendary comes to mind with this beer, but it’s a good solid light. Top shelf. Good beer.

*Editor’s Comment: The average Mike Tyson fight lasted just over 3 rounds. With 3 minute rounds and 1 minute breaks that’s about 13 minutes. Of his 49 wins, 43 were knockouts. Of his 43 knockouts 21 were in the first round. Of those 21 first round knockouts, 8 of them were in the first minute.

*Editor’s Comment: Tiger Woods has held the position of number one in the PGA tour for most consecutive weeks (281) and most total weeks (683). Woods also held the number one position for an entire calendar year in 2001-2003 and then from 2006 to 2009.
