After some fancy pants pints that poured well but didn’t score well, * I could use a beer that tastes like beer right about now. A back-to-basics brew was needed to restore some semblance of order to the universe. How about a Munich style lager, purity laws adhered to, ** that’s about as back to basics as it gets. So a Rainhard Classic got the call.
They tell us that this beer is everything they wanted it to be. That all sounds fine, but I hope they realize this is all about me, so we will see if it is everything I want it to be.
When it’s Rainhard, it pours, and so it does. That’s one golden clear beer here. A mild malt and lager sweet aroma. First taste is mild malt, check, lager sweet, check, and a dry slightly acerbic finish and aftertaste which doesn’t quite fit at first quaff, but may evolve? That dry slightly bitter pils finish fades but does not leave, but what it does do is come into balance. It’s no longer competing with the malt, but accentuating it. Well balanced and big swig amenable. Very nice!
What started as a question mark turned into an exclamation point. A beer that tastes like a beer, and is everything I wanted it to be and a bit more.
