When you are reviewing brews, you have to watch your Ps and Qs,* your ABVs and your IBUs. Case in point is this stout from down on the Anderson homestead. A high ABV for a traditional stout and a high IBU too. Not imperial or impervious, but nonetheless I must confess it’s not less than a Guinness. Now that I have that rhyming spell out of my system, I can do, a review, about, this stout. It’s hard to control once you are on a roll.**
Sweet sixteen madness and the Leafs playing too so the old channel changer is getting a work out tonight. I think a cold glass in my changer hand will counter a potential early carpal tunnel onset, just one more health benefit of drinking beer.
This stout pours dark dark and delicious looking, with a tan head count of one. A farm fresh roasted malt with a cocoa aroma, inviting, enticing, and encouraging. A great full flavour with cocoa and coffee and a surprisingly bitter finish for a stout. A great body, robust is the right adjective, but a bit of a harsh finish which I expect/hope to settle a bit. It is definitely full of flavour, very tasty. The finish is becoming a coffee espresso still a bit harsh, the backend bite varies in intensity but is always there. Not smooth, but a great roasted malt cocoa flavour before the harsh bitters at the end.
