COMDB riddle time:

Q: If it’s still light outside and you go inside how is it that the dark pours in?

A: When you stop in for a lunch libation at Flying Monkeys and a Reapers & Mowers dark lager is poured in your glass.

A site visit to the fabled Flying Monkeys Taproom, where weird is normal. Interestingly enough, I felt normal there too. The place was so busy that they had to sit me on stage, which was a step up from my usual table. I had to battle my recurring stage fright, a condition relating to the last time I performed in a bar way back in the day. An improvised (some may say unplanned) and entertaining (some may say embarrassing) performance, and memorable to all but me. *

On my last visit to FM I was assessed the lofty designation of Beerologist, an honour I still cherish to this day. ** Time to put that esteemed title to work on this trip to the dark side.

And dark clear beer it is, a stout-like body with a light to white head. A mild roast malt cocoa aroma, an invitation I was unable, unlikely, and quite frankly unwilling to resist. First quaff was a creamy smooth slightly hoppy tangy fizz cocoa malt forward touch of espresso tasty dark.  Second swig the fizz stays, and this creamy cocoa craft lager is just plain delicious. The fizz fades as fizzes are prone to do, and the remains of the day is a full mouthfeel cocoa smooth lager. Easy drinking, definitely big swiggable. Although I resisted the temptation as I seem to recall a number of big swigs preceded my aforementioned stage fright inducing performance of many years ago, in my pre one and done days.

I exited stage right and the only applause was not for me but from me, in appreciation of this tasty dark lager.

*Editor: Some may say drunk, as in those who were there.

**Editor’s Comment: Flying Monkeys defines a “Beerologist” as, and I quote “one who drinks a shitload of craft beer”. Our reviewer definitely qualifies. Some may say he's overqualified.
