Friends?
Cr(h)azy like a bedbug or cr(h)azy like a fox? We don’t get too many Belgium created IPAs around here, although some would say this is a hopped up Belgian blonde. How’s that for crazy. Speaking of crazy, it’s time to call in the COMDB translation department to deal with some Belgian French.* They tell us that anyone with high school French (as opposed to anyone who frenched in high school) would know that Bière des Amis means “Beer with friends”.
Cr(h)azy and friendly, a potent and/or concerning combination to be sure. As far as Belgian brewskis go we’ve sampled our fair share and a few more. The Belgians on our Christmas countdown has us down for the count, the Saints preserving us in high ABV concoctions, and carelessly caroling on the dark side. But the Belgian pink elephant parade has us seriously delirious.
Time for a cr(h)anky review. This sporty shorty (330ml) pours half a glass of golden middlin’ hazy (as opposed to cr(h)azy hazy) with another quarter glass of bright white head, not a foam fest but not far off. The aroma is fruit citrus tart and hoppy almost a sour disposition, but very light through the froth. The taste is nice mild citrus tropical fruit, it’s not very hoppy, but very fizzy as in a bit too busy fizzy. It settles down quickly into a light session like IPA, nice light fruit, mild hops and still some fizz, but everything has come into place, and balance.
I don’t know about cr(h)azy, but it is a light refreshing easy drinking mild IPA. Mes amis can get their own bière, this one’s too good to share.**
