As I poured this beer I thought to myself, this is dark. There may be fifty shades of grey but there is one shade of dark. How dark you ask. Dark as my darkest thoughts*, well not quite that dark, but pretty dark! They have a warthog (a Pumbaa for those Disney movie buffs) on the can which I couldn’t figure out. According to Waterloo it is not a warthog, it is “a mysterious wild boar that represents stubborn pride”. According to my research the wild boar is the ancestor of most domestic pig breeds so we can thank them for bacon, but I didn’t see any reference to either stubbornness or pride.
This dark lager is very dark, strong to taste and very good. It is not necessarily smooth, it requires a bit of acclimatization, but it is quite a flavourful and enjoyable quaff. Warning, I don’t think this beer is for everyone, some may be put off by its aggressive taste. But give the warthog (oops, I mean stubborn and prideful wild boar), a chance. As Waterloo would say, “Pour the boar”.
