Old and new, deja brew. Bean there, done that.
Bruno was livin’ it up in the city, Frank was waking up in a city that never sleeps, and those good ol’ boys from Foghat were fools for the city. Me, I’m pouring a heapin’ helpin’ of Full City Coffee Porter, and looking forward to a tasty toasty quaff. After my pour a pint pic is taken, and while I’m searching up Full City* to get to the brewer’s website what comes up on my world wide web? None other than COMDB. It seems we had already reviewed this brew. I check out the review and the brew pic looks eerily similar to the one I just took. Deja brew. It turns out that I was the previous reviewer! A senior suds sampler moment for sure. I think it was Brittany who said “Oops I did it again”. **
This brew pours pitch and perfect, tan head to top off the quaff. A great full force aroma of roasted malt, cocoa and coffee, aromatic as Patrick’s Beans. First taste is a full flavoured roasted malt sweet and a just right coffee combo. Sometimes a coffee porter can be over-caffeinated, that’s the kind of mistake that can keep you up at night. But the FR guys and gals hit the proverbial nail on the head with this one. Great flavour, smooth almost creamy mouthfeel, minimal bitters and great balance. Not too often you can call a porter easy drinking, but this one was approaching big swiggable status.
Forked River’s porter is so nice I did it twice. Forked again and loving it. It turns out I’m a fool for the city too.
