Cranking up the old BBQ, and poppin’ the top on a Hail Mary from Brimstone Brewing. Naming a beer Hail Mary, is that sacrilege? The last BB brew review was their Sinister Minister, I think these guys at Brimstone are playing with fire. Hold up in an old church, they even have a cross in their logo, for God’s sake.
Of course “Hail Mary” isn’t necessarily a reference to a sacred prayer. It could be a weather report, or high praise for a past flame. Upon reading the fine print, on the can it says “Go Deep” which sounds like a reference to the football “Hail Mary”, the desperate last chance attempt to win the game with a low odds high risk pass into the end zone.* This seems about as relevant as my reviews, as our Editor never fails to point out.**
A single hop session IPA (Sabro), will this be a one hop wonder or a lonely hops club flop? Coming in on one wing and a prayer, let’s see how it lands. A hazy muted golden orange pour, looks juicy. With a full head of head right where it should be. Nice fruit aroma, tropical citrus, no hops.
Tropical juicy with a bit of fizz and a touch of bitter, with a nice fruit aftertaste. It’s not hoppy, looks like that one lonely only hop is focusing on the fruit. It’s a big swig gig, tasty fresh, an easy peasy pleaser. Juice and fizz are the biz, bitters are now a not-so-distant memory.
Crushing the brew and rushing the BBQ, a photo finish between the chicken and the beer. A nice sessionable IPA that didn’t skimp on the fruit.
