A visit to Lake of Bays Barrelhouse, like the stack of library books on my desk, was long overdue. With such an interesting selection of brews from which to choose for you know who to review, I decided to consult the definitive guide on how to pour and score, The COMDB Guide to Beer Tasting. Rule number 1 rules, and that rule is, and I quote, “pick a beer with a funny name”. My Son’s Name is Also Dort seemed to fit the bill. Naming your kid after a beer, classic. Why didn’t I think of that? I certainly wouldn’t have any trouble remembering the grandkids names if that were the case. I think I’ll suggest Porter for the next boy, Amber for the next girl of course.

Hey Dick, having a car, some cash and not looking hideous also helps.
Farmer Steve tells us a little DAB will do ya’, and I know from experience a lot of DAB will do ya’ in. * In the 80’s we were a Gordon Gekko greed is good society of excess, ** but these days we’re a modern nation of moderation. With that in mind this Dortmunder seems like the perfect modern day German pale. At 4% it’s technically a light beer but if it can pull off a classic Dortmunder taste at that ABV, well more power to it.
A nice deep bronze semi hazy pour with a thick cream froth. A malty aroma touch of grain and hop, it smells very Oktoberfesty. First taste is creamy light malty lager sweet with an ale crisp to it. The aftertaste is mild bitters on the tongue. I love that creamy nitro like mouthfeel, which makes for some smooth drinking. I challenge you to find a more flavourful light beer anywhere. Very tasty, I think the nitro tap really makes this one special.
And a shout out to Matt and Dillon, who provided me not only with excellent service but with some Gunsmoke flashbacks too. *** A toast to the hosts with the most.
