The real thing

Lost Craft aren’t just missing their boat, but there is no gin or dry vermouth in this Martini either. No classy cosmopolitan this one, nor down and dirty, or even a downtown big apple Manhattan project, this is an Espresso nitro don’t you know. For all you mixologists out there, this Espresso Martini * is 16 ounces of stout infused with espresso and flavoured (subtlety they say) with vanilla. Will my confidence be shaken or my emotions stirred?  Time to pour and score.

A black-tie affair of a pour for sure, as in espresso black, no turning back black. Not a typical Nitro as in unencumbered by a head of any kind. It is cocoa creamy sweet dessert on the nose, vanilla present and accounted for. The taste is dark dark chocolate cocoa with a sweet vanilla spike, as advertised. A middlin’ creamy mouthfeel. A dessert in a glass with no hops or bite, a very smooth operator. The boat may be missing but Lost Craft didn’t go overboard on the vanilla, they came close but never crossed the line.

It is certainly sweet, more of a chocolate stout than a coffee one in my books.

*Editor’s Comment: The Espresso Martini was invented in London, England. One popular recipe is a combination of a 1.5 ounces coffee liqueur (Kahlua for example), 1 ounce brewed espresso, 1 ounce white crème de cacao, and 1.5 ounces vodka with 1 cup of ice. Shaken, and strained, much like my nerves when editing COMDB.
