A Path Well Worth Following

El Camino

Sons of Kent Brewing Co.

Just follow The Path and you’ll get there on time. Said no one, ever.

The COMDB Translation Department did a sombrero dance around this one and came up with El Camino meaning “the Path” or “the way”. Is it the path to follow or Frost’s road less travelled. I know when I’m in Toronto I always get lost in The Path * and that shortcut to a meeting ends up being my only excuse for being late.**

El Camino*** is also the name of the iconic Chevy coupe utility vehicle.  Maybe the same person who thought it was a good idea to make a sports car truck was the guy who decided to put lime in my lager? And salted no less! My salted lime experience to date was a trip to El Valle Salado, a trip I won’t be taking again too soon. I don’t object to lime in my brew, a touch of lime can be sublime, but a touch to much lime is one touch over the line. Enough wordplay, time for a brew review.

The Sons of Kent have served up a golden and very clear pour, bubbles feeding a non-existent head. The lime mild malt aroma left me hoping for some subtlety in these suds. The taste is lime but light as in just right and the malt is light beer light so there is a nice balance to it. Maybe the salt made the lime more bearable? Whatever the Sons did it worked. A light refreshing salted lime lager that keeps it all together nicely. This El Camino is a path well worth following.

*Editor’s Comment: The Path in downtown Toronto is known as the largest shopping mall in the world. It connects 70 or more buildings and is over 18 miles long.

**Editor’s Comment: Your lack of any sense of direction, or at times any sense for that matter, could well be another excuse.

**Editor’s Comment: The El Camino was launched in 1959 and was in production for over 30 years and was a very successful offering from Chevy. Combining a car and a truck wasn’t a new concept. In the 1930’s Ford designer Lew Bandt developed one in Australia. The concept met limited success at that time but came back in the 1957 as the Ford Ranchero.
