The old man’s favourite author was Louis L’Amour. His favourite TV show was Gunsmoke. When it came to music he liked both kinds, country and western, although he preferred Western, Johnny Cash in particular. * So he may have appreciated this rootin’ tootin’ red headed rider of a Rousse from la Belle Province.
Speaking of the old man and Québec, the first time I heard him swear was when we were visiting Expo 67 and we got lost in Montreal with a tent trailer in tow. Anyone who has ever driven in Montreal knows it was never the easiest place to get around.
A Rousse Rustre from Ā La Fūt out of St-Tite.** The COMDB Translation Department were chomping at the bit for this one. “A rustic redhead in the barrel” they told me. Although technically “Rousse” is a red ale, the Quebec brewers tend more towards an amber with their redhead. To confuse the issue, could a redheaded beer also be a ginger ale? Enough bilingual jeu de mots, we have a craft to critique.
This red pours much more light brown, a toffee tan shade. An aroma of roasted caramel, smells like super suds right out of the blocks. First taste is malt caramel sweet and smooth, wow, that’s one tasty brew. No rough rider here. The slightest bit of fizz on the finish doesn’t detract from the smoothness at all. About as sweet as you can get without being too. I love me an amber, and this one fits the bill.
This Rousse Rustre is a red rider that even Tom Cochrane would be proud of. ***
