Drip Wizard came highly recommended by the cashier at the liquor store. “I tried this one last night, it was delicious”. I never thought once to question whether the two of us had similar tastes (foreshadowing). The reality is that White Stouts have not fared well on COMDB (more foreshadowing). * Whether a golden ale flavoured like a stout is a stout or not (they aren’t) is debatable (it isn’t). **

These drip wizards may actually work (even more foreshadowing).
Regardless of the name, the fine folks at Refined Fool have quite rightly described this brew as a Golden Blonde. They also tell us that it “tastes good whether you’re into wizards or not”. I don’t have any opinion when it comes to wizards, but I am into beer. Time to put this pseudo stout to the taste test.
A magical pour even Dumbledore would adore.*** A honey brown body with a solid white foam (not froth). The aroma is much more of an ale than a stout. No stout like flavours here, any roasted malt characteristics are MIA. It comes on like an ale with a mish mash of flavours, none very distinct. It does taste like beer so it’s got that going for it. It settles into an ale with a touch of vanilla and a mild espresso ale bitters finish. A creamy mouthfeel. The vanilla just showed up in spades or any other suit that suits you, but it’s here.
A confused fusion of tastes that never quite achieved whatever they were aiming for. I didn’t need a sorting hat to figure this one out.
