Dylan warned us about a hard rain. Gene Kelly was singing and dancing in it. Prince coloured it purple. And old Noah he navigated through it for days on end. But what this Rainhard is bringing us is a torrential downpour of juice on the loose, a crazy hazy IPA From Beyond, no umbrella or gumboots required. We aren’t sure exactly where they are coming from with this brew, other than beyond.
A very hazy orange golden pour. As hazy as many of my recollections these days. I could smell the juiciness during the pour. A closer sniff yielded a potent portent of a pungent purée on the proboscis. In other words, it smells real juicy. Tropical.
A proper pull confirms a juiced up brew with a base of fizz and very mild hops bitters, tasty. I do love me some juice. Oh oh, it’s getting too juicy! Thick and thicker like the aforementioned purée. The too juicy hazy body results in a bit of a funky aftertaste, not unpleasant but maybe not endearing either, it just seems out of place. Above and beyond on the juice, less juice please. Tons of juice up front but some baggage in the rear that I wish wasn’t here.
Mae West once said “Too much of a good thing can be wonderful.” Of course, she was making a not too subtle reference to sex. When it comes to a hazy juicer, bring on the juice I say, the juicier the better…… to a point. Then there is above and beyond, which is an apt description of this brew when it comes to the juice.
