Ale or Lager or Both?

The Ale Hybrid

Walsh Wiltshire Brewing Co.

5% Alcohol

My old buddy JT asked me if I thought I was helping climate change by drinking a hybrid. I’m not sure about that but maybe a hybrid gives you less gas? Back in the day a carbon footprint was what you ended up with from staggering around the campfire after a few too many of those easy drinking American brews. I will do my part and make sure I return the empty can to the beer store.

WW describes this as a beer with the look of a lager but the weight of an ale. They designed it to be attractive to all beer drinkers. It is a nice golden pour, although the picture looks a bit hazy, it isn’t. Some carbonation in there. Nice mouthfeel, refreshing. No hops or bitters involved. Not a lot of malt either. A nice understated flavour. A bit of a harsh aftertaste, is that me or the Planters peanuts? The aftertaste exited stage right after the second swig. Easy drinking beer that true to its name is hard to put a label on.

This is a good beer but you get the feeling that if they had gone ale or lager, either way, it would have been a better beer.

Editor’s Comments: Walsh Wiltshire is based in Ottawa, but this beer was brewed by Lake of Bays in the Muskokas. According to WW the Provincial Territory Series (T-series) Ale Hybrid, was originally launched in Ottawa on Canada Day 2017 to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday.
