I love me an amber. But will I love me Amber’s amber? An Amber Brewery Original Toronto Amber Lager graces my glass and expectations are as high as a CN Tower EdgeWalk.* Despite the typical big city drawbacks I’m a big fan of the little apple. The concerts, the Leafs, the Blue Jays and the brewers. So for me a Toronto Amber sounds like the best of both worlds.
Firmly ensconced in my comfy chair atop the boathouse on the long weekend, a cloudless night, an astronomer’s dream, 500 star accommodations. A super suds sampling setting for sure. Time to put this amber in its place.
A very clear definitely amber coloured pour, and like the clouds, head MIA. A concerning Coca Cola caramel aroma. First quaff watery sweet caramel, a very light body with no lager presence and a flat very dry finish. Like a light amber ale. The dry finish eventually goes the way of the dinosaur, the rotary phone and the Blackberry. What is left is a watery amber.
Maybe I have commitment issues but love is too strong a word for this one. Did I like it a lot? I think I liked it a little, not a lot. Were my expectations too high? Always.
