An Extra Dry March

Jever

Friesisches Brauhaus zu Jever

4.9% Alcohol

Arrivederci dry Feb, we’re ushering in an extra dry March with an extra dry pilsner after an extra day February. An upholder of the Bavarian Purty Laws, this Friesisches Brauhaus offering is straight from Jever, Germany* to my glass via Brooklyn New York. From the Brauhaus to the Brooklyn Bridge to the Beer Store, a well-travelled brew.

A clear bright golden pour, Bavarian purity is a good look on this brew. Any head might be in the clouds above the Atlantic, because none showed up here. A mild malt aroma, it’s a bit bubbly.  The taste yields a fresh light body, bitters kicked in early and stayed for the finish and aftertaste. This brew is all crisp and bitters  with some mild malt early in each swig. Extra dry is exactly what this one is. A brew that gets this fresh might get slapped. As this Pils progressed some floral arrangements were delivered, milder than the malt but begging to be noticed.

Extra dry, crisp refreshing, a world traveler that will no doubt rack up some frequent drinker miles around here.

*Editor’s Comment: Jever is the capital of the Friesland district of Germany. It is famous for the Friesisches Brauhaus and its namesake Pilsner which has been brewed there for over 170 years.
